We get this question a lot, especially from PR teams running local campaigns.
The short answer:
PodPitch does not currently support filtering podcasts by city or state.
Here’s why:
1. Podcasts are not like local news outlets.
Unlike journalists, most podcast hosts don’t restrict their content to a single geographic area. In fact, limiting their audience to one city would hurt their reach and growth. The vast majority of podcasts aim to be national or global.
2. Local podcasts are rare, and becoming rarer.
While there are some region-specific podcasts (e.g., “The Austin Life Podcast” or “This Week in Miami”), they’re the exception. Even those often feature guests from outside their city and talk about topics that appeal to a broader audience.
3. You’re better off thinking about audience relevance, not location.
Instead of aiming for podcasts based in a city, think about what the listeners care about. If you’re launching a food brand in Chicago, you might get more traction from a national foodie podcast than a hyper-local lifestyle show with low reach.
What we recommend:
- Focus on niche alignment. Use PodPitch’s filters to target podcasts in your industry or interest category.
- Mention your location in the pitch. Even if the podcast isn’t Chicago-based, you can make your story locally relevant in the message.
- If geo-targeting is a dealbreaker, consider complementing your podcast outreach with local PR or radio - those mediums are better suited for geographic targeting.
Final word:
We don’t want to set you up for disappointment. If you’re expecting highly localized podcast targeting, PodPitch probably isn’t the right tool for that specific use case. But if you’re looking to land relevant, meaningful coverage that resonates with the right audience, regardless of location, we’ve got your back.
